Bryan Fuller, showrunner for Hannibal, will be producing a Star Trek TV show for CBS, announced Wednesday. This new series will air in 13 separate “weekly” episodes on CBS’s streaming service, All-Access, after first airing on regular television.
CBS is not the first network to do this; the first being NBC in 2015, with the release of Aquarius, a Charles Manson-esque show starring David Duchovny.
No one will ever compare to William Shatner, as James T. Kirk, Patrick Stewart, as Jean-Luc Picard, or Kate Mulgrew as Kathryn Janeway. Here are some picks for top 10 actors who could play the captain in CBS’s new series.
1. Nathan Fillion
If you don’t know NATHAN FILLION, then you might be living under a rock. He was the captain in the cult classic sci-fi series “Firefly” that packs a gigantic and loyal cult following, and he used to be the main protagonist of the famous light-hearted crime show “Castle”. Recently, rumors broke out that his fans are campaigning to get him hired as the next Captain in the new Star Trek series. Considering many recent occurrences of cast selections that were heavily influenced by the social media petitions (One good example Deadpool = Ryan Reynolds), it wouldn’t be far-fetched to think that he might get attention from CBS or even get a chance to audition for it. Nonetheless, Nathan has become a very busy man, because he has already been pulled by Marvel to play “Wonder Man” in the “Guardians Of The Galaxy” sequel, plus he is also involved in other big budget movies, so yes, time would be a major constraint here for Nathan. You can’t ignore the fact that he has the looks as well as the acting chops to be a Captain in the Star Fleet, don’t you think?
2. Maggie Q
This dynamic actress, star of Nikita, has had some action-packed roles in the past. She sure could fill the shoes for the captain.
