Warning: This article Might Contain Spoilers For The Last Jedi.
Tom Hardy has eventually confirmed about his cameo as a stormtrooper in Star Wars: The Last Jedi. After making a spectacular entrance into cinemas last weekend, The Last Jedi is right now almost the most major event on Earth. The latest Star Wars Episode got rave reviews and had a huge $450 million opening which was the fifth best opening weekend in the history. The $220 million domestic opening was the second best ever and trails only The Force Awakens. The film managed to achieve all this despite its highly publicized and mixed reception from the audiences. The unexpected negative response has given the film the lowest Rotten Tomatoes audience score in the Star Wars history. That’s true, as per Tomatometer, fans disliked The Last Jedi even more than the prequels.
Although The Last Jedi controversially altered the Star Wars franchise, the saga will go on to remain the most loved imaginary universe of our times. Its extreme popularity goes far beyond the geeks and the nerds. The rich and the famous also love the galaxy far, far away as much as the rest of us commoners. It is just that they find it easy actually to become a part of the saga, though.
There were several celebrity cameos in The Last Jedi, but, the most significant one remained shrouded in mystery. Until now, that is. More than a year and a half of rejecting the rumors about being the next Hollywood star to get a cameo into a Star Wars movie, Tom Hardy finally confirmed that he really played a Stormtrooper in The Last Jedi. Since then his original acknowledgment post on Instagram has been removed. However, you can have a look at a reposted version of the same below:
Rumors about Hardy featuring in The Last Jedi had initially come up in May last year. However, Hardy stayed away from the rumors for months. It was back in August when The Last Jedi actor John Boyega mistakenly revealed the secret.
Ultimately, it was not of that much consequence. Even now, we don’t know for sure when did Hardy’s Stormtrooper appear on the big screen, assuming he did. Initial reports about Hardy being the one who slapped Finn on the rear to congratulate his elevation turned out to be baseless. It might also be true that Hardy’s appearance was edited out of the movie, just the way it happened with Prince Harry and Prince William. Hardy’s Instagram post didn’t offer many clues either. His scene (or scenes) were most likely shot onboard a spacecraft belonging to the First Order. If you heard a voice resembling Tom Hardy or spotted a Stormtrooper without a helmet who looked anything like Max Rockatansky, consider yourself lucky!
