Henry Cavill has claimed that we will see the arrival of “the true Superman” in the upcoming Justice League. At the end of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, we saw Kal-El/Clark Kent dying when Cavill’s Superman had to make the ultimate sacrifice to save the world from Doomsday. However, we saw how the grains of dirt were rising above his grave, and that was a major hint about a resurrection.
Cavill is well aware of the fact that his darker version of Superman which was first seen in Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel hasn’t been a hit among some of the Superman fans. Cavill recently expressed his view that the initial DCEU films made the “right mistakes,” and called the Gal Gadot starrer by Patty Jenkins, Wonder Woman to be “the first step in the right direction.” Many people consider this implies that the version of Superman that will be seen in Justice League will be much lighter in tone than the one that died in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
Cavill recently told Entertainment Weekly that the DC Comics icon Geoff Johns (one of the producers of Justice League movie) has helped them create a more honest Superman adaptation and fans will see him in Justice League.
“Geoff [Johns] and I have been delving into the history of the character to get to the core of who Superman is. This is the first time we see the true Superman. The Superman who is confident, and sure, and full of hope and joy.”
Undoubtedly, this is a major development for those who love Superman’s lighter version that was sorely missed in Man of Steel and Batman V Superman. It will be fascinating to find out how Cavill performs in the new positive and joyous version of the Superman. It is likely that he will try to stay closer to the iconic Christopher Reeve version.
It is, however, unclear how the talk about Superman dressed in a black suit in Justice League connects with the happier and more positive adaptation of Superman. It is possible that he will come out of the grave as a dark version of his old self, draped in the black costume and during the course of the film he will adopt a much lighter outlook.
Justice League is coming out soon, and we don’t need to wait much to find out.
