The Marvel Studios and WB films have created a trend where the loyal moviegoers wait till a film’s credits are over to check out the hint about the franchise’s next film. Thus, you would expect Star Wars, which is a film by Disney who also owns Marvel Studios, would also follow suit and include a hint to Episode IX at the ending of The Last Jedi, however, that is not how things are.
There is no Star Wars film so far that had a post-credits visual. However, the franchise does not need to follow the pattern of the modern day blockbusters suddenly. The studio trusts the fans to watch the next Episode of the story without any post-credits visual. However, that doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t wait in the theatre until that point. It is still going to be worth staying back after the film is over.
All the Star Wars or the pop culture fans know that Carrie Fisher sadly passed away towards the end of the last year. Fisher played a key role in the Star Wars saga and has been a favorite ever since she debuted as Princess Leia Organa in 1977. Therefore, her demise has been a big blow to countless fans. She also happened to be a compassionate, loving and fun person apart from being a famous actress, therefore, it is delightful to know that The Last Jedi pays tribute to her life after the movie ends. Carrie Fisher gets the intergalactic send-off much deserved by her.
A lot of talks have raged about Fisher’s future in the Star Wars franchise, specifically, after it was revealed that her narrative in The Last Jedi would remain unchanged, rather, the films in the future would modify themselves to move away from her character. Just like the various unexpected twists and reveals of the film, the credits also contain a surprise.
Since the Star Wars Episode VIII is her last, a heart-touching title card is shown after the initial set of credits, and it states “In Loving Memory of our Princess: Carrie Fisher,” an emotion that will weigh heavily for those who decide to watch the film. The words mean everything. Carrie was the ‘her highness’ of the Star Wars fans and turned out to be a role model for females all over the world for four decades.
Many people say that it would have been more sensible to feature a tribute to the departed actor in the legendary opening crawl that the Star Wars is renowned for. However, the tribute makes a bigger impact at the end of the film as it is free-standing without any distraction and solely aims at remembering Fisher.
