Warning: This article contains Major Star Wars: The Last Jedi Spoilers. Read At Your Own Risk!
A great feature of the Star Wars franchise is that it is superb when it comes to turning seemingly meaningless or ordinary segments at one time into something mega that pays rich dividends in the future and same is the case with the new trilogy. An observant Twitter user managed to spot that there was a seed sown in Rogue One which ultimately became a major chunk of The Last Jedi’s narrative, and it makes us believe that there might have been many other such things that we had glossed over. The directorial debut of Rian Johnson in the Star Wars world has witnessed varying responses from fans. That is due to the fact that he has made a movie which is vastly different from any of the earlier Episodes, and fans are now divided into two segments, one of which is very happy with the film and the other doesn’t approve of it. Therefore, this Rogue One revisit might be of help for the non-believers of the fandom.
The biggest challenge faced by the Resistance in The Last Jedi is the fact that the First Order has developed a technology allowing them to track the Resistance through hyperspace. Resistance escaped from their base on D’Qar and plunged into hyperspace which led them to the middle of nowhere, as stated by Finn. But, the First Order catches up in no time, and it is revealed that they have a technology which allows them to track Resistance ships through hyperspace. It is a huge breakthrough as nobody could do such a thing until then.
A Twitter user by the name of Kyleauxren highlighted that hyperspace tracking was first revealed in Rogue One when Jyn Erso and Cassian Andor were scanning the Scarif data banks for the Death Star plans. The particular scene had Jyn reading through the data base on various Galactic Empire projects. One of the projects that she read off was hyperspace tracking, which is proof that the Empire had spent considerable time on the development of this technology before they used it perfectly in The Last Jedi. Pablo Hidalgo from Lucasfilm acknowledged this Easter Egg on Twitter, which made a lot of fans believe that there are plenty of others which might be revealed in the future.
Jyn Erso had also read about various other fascinating projects such as navigational systems, which might be the hint about Empire’s escape to Unknown Regions. Besides, Jyn Erso also read through various codenamed projects including Stellarsphere, Mark Omega, Pax Aurora, War-Mantle, Cluster Prism and Blacksaber. The last one is a peculiar Mandalorian/Jedi saber which is presently being used in Star Wars Rebels, and it excited a lot of fans. The complete scene that a lot of people might have not even noticed turned out to be an Easter Egg for such a massive plot point for The Last Jedi.
This recently discovered Easter Egg is among the prominent ones in Star Wars recent history, and it has been accomplished in such a way that it is out there in plain sight. The meticulous planning and thought effort given by Lucasfilm and its filmmakers can’t be underestimated because all that they create seems to have been made with love and as a tribute to the movies before it. Have a look at the way Rogue One created the plot point for The Last Jedi, below, provided by Kyleauxren’s Twitter account.
