Batman Returns happens to be a crazy film and that’s why some fans love it. It has absurd performances such as Michelle Pfeiffer’s appealing Catwoman. Pfeiffer’s version of Selina Kyle became iconic after Batman Returns’ release, however, now we hear that we were close to seeing more of her in an unmade Catwoman film. Pfeiffer talked about the abandoned project while promoting her film Murder on the Orient Express and stated:
I loved that part. I felt like I was just getting comfortable and getting used to the claws and the mask, just figuring out how to move in all of that. There was a little bit of talk about that, then that kind of faded away.
Michelle Pfeiffer’s remarks to The New York Times almost make you wish like going back in time and getting the Catwoman film made. There is not much information about who didn’t let this film happen, or whether Batman was to play a part in it, but, the thought of Pfeiffer further owning the role of Selina Kyle is a highly enticing thought.
You can’t just help but reflect upon the prospects of a Michelle Pfeiffer led Catwoman film and imagine how it would have been. The feeling is only stronger when we compare it with the Catwoman film that did get made. Do you recall a disappointing film starring Halle Berry as..
Beyond doubt, this unmade Michelle Pfeiffer Catwomanfilm is among the several projects from DC that either rotted in development or simply didn’t see the light of the day. These range from Darren Aronofsky’s version of Batman: Year One to the Tim Burton’s Nicholas Cage starrer Superman Lives. Some of these unmade DC films have nearly been as legendary as the ones that were made. Despite all of them, Michelle Pfeiffer’s Catwoman film is the one that frustrates us most because it would have been so incredible.
It is very much possible that in the future, we might see a Catwoman solo film, though, it might not feature Michelle Pfeiffer in the lead role. The project is not much in the news, but, recently rumors suggest that Gotham City Sirens is still on, which might be the Launchpad for a new Catwoman in the DCEU. In case the character does well as a part of a team, then DC might follow it up by letting Selina Kyle take the centre stage again.
While Michelle Pfeiffer could never do that in a Catwomansolo film, she is revered highly for her flawless portrayal of the villain/anti-hero in Batman Returns. The modern Batman stories will expand further with the Justice League’s release on November 17th. Do make sure to secure your tickets for the mega movie!
In the meanwhile, you can catch Michelle Pfeiffer in Murder on the Orient Express releasing on November 10.
