Dragon Ball Super has been handing out power-ups like hotcakes as the Tournament of Power enters its final rounds. Goku has tapped the Ultra Instinct power, the Universe 6 female Saiyans are getting fusion power-ups, and Jiren of Universe 11 is using a kind of meditative technique that may outclass everyone. But what about the Namekians?
Universe 6 does not only have Saiyan warriors that are similar to the Universe 7 heroes we know, they have Namekian warriors that are in the vein of Piccolo. So while the other combatants receive power-ups, there has been a growing theory that the Nameks may be slated for an upgrade.
Could Dragon Ball Super soon give Piccolo a new power-up? Here’s what we know at the moment:
The Tournament of Power is entering the final countdown which is pushing the fighters from every universe to go all-out and reveal the final power-ups for victory.
As fan theory goes, the increase in power-ups for fighters like Goku, Jiren, and fused Kefla will push the Nameks of Universe 6 to ally with Piccolo: one of them will fuse with him to create a Super Namekian.
The speculation is that this fusion will allow Piccolo to stand a chance of competing in the tournament again; it will also allow the DBS showrunners to make this character relevant and will give the Universe 6 Nameks a safety net. Like we had seen with Vegeta and Cabba, Piccolo will strike a deal to resurrect Universe 6 with the Super Dragon Balls should he win the Tournament of Power.
The method of power-up is as important as the result. And the Piccolo power-up theory comes with a few permanent consequences.
For fans with long memories: In Dragon Ball Z’s “Freeza Saga” Piccolo had arrived on Namek after being resurrected and had then made contact with the planet’s strongest Namekian warriors, Nail. Nail had been left dead by Freeza, and pleaded with Piccolo to undergo a Namekian form of fusion that will power them up to battle Freeza. Piccolo had agreed and after the power-up, he found himself stronger and able to stand toe-to-toe with Freeza.
With the Nameks having their unique fusion, there is potential for Piccolo to merge with one or more of the Universe 6 Nameks ad creating a powerful Namekian warrior.
There are several many potential pitfalls to the theory and the biggest is the question of why the Universe 6 Nameks does not fuse themselves, in order to defeat Piccolo and the rest of their challengers in the Tournament of Power.
It is a good question, one whose answers may come down to strategy: will a Universe 6 Namekian merge be enough to give them an edge in this tournament? After seeing Jiren, the Universe 6 Nameks may need Piccolo’s power.
