The 20th Century Fox’s gaming division, FoxNext Games has acquired the Bay Area-based Cold Iron Studios, which will develop a new PC/console shooter set based in the cinematic universe of the Alien franchise. This new acquisition displays FoxNext Games’ commitment to create new AAA options across various fan-favorite IPs and new games. This is what, Aaron Loeb, President of Studios, FoxNext Games said via a statement related to the Xenomorph video game.
“Cold Iron Studios has amazing design, craftsmanship and development talent that we are excited to welcome at FoxNext Games as we pursue our goal to build a multi-platform, multi-genre portfolio of great games. I am a personal fan of Cold Iron’s previous work and all of us at FoxNext Games are thrilled to be working with them as they create an action-packed persistent world, steeped in the mysteries of this beloved Alien universe.”
Various industry veterans jointly make up the Cold Iron Studios, and it has an impressive record of creating big projects such as Neverwinter, Metroid Prime 3, BioShock Infinite, City of Heroes and a lot more. The Cold Iron Studios leadership includes CEO Craig Zinkievich, CTO Shannon Posniewski, and Creative Director Matt Highison. No information is available about the Alien movies on which this game will be based, but, talk has been going on about director Ridley Scott taking the sci-fi franchise further, and he had stated last year about having plans for six new Alien films. However, that was before the Alien: Covenant tanked at the box office. This is what Cold Iron’s Craig Zinkievich said in his statement.
“We believe in FoxNext’s vision, and we are thrilled about the opportunity to explore an amazing and rich universe. Our background in building online worlds and taking established franchises to the next level in interactive entertainment is a precise fit with our product roadmap ahead; we can’t wait to share more information soon.”
The first offering of FoxNext Games, Marvel Strike Force, developed by FoxNext LA was revealed late last year. This free mobile game is a team based role-playing game comprising of heroes and villains from Marvel Universe. Marvel Strike Force is scheduled to release this year. FoxNext is a venture of 21st Century Fox, and it will eventually go under the Disney umbrella after the deal which is expected to be wrapped up next year. This news also comes only a few weeks after we heard that the Alien: Covenant sequel was not happening, and it led to speculation about Disney rebooting the franchise later. You can know more about the upcoming game at Variety.
