Do you remember the movie which had a sentient truck with an enormous Green Goblin face on it? Yep, that’s is where you recall Stephen King’s Maximum Overdrive. And if you had watched this film as a kid, we are pretty sure; you would recall it being awesome. But the truth is far from the memory that your naive brain had stored.
That movie bombed at the box-office, it destroyed any future Stephen King’s movie direction hopes, and yeah, most of the lead actors had to struggle severely after the critics brutalized this film on their reviews. It was a B-Movie that had a decent budget, in fact somehow Stephen was able to get AC/DC to sing for this film. Can you believe it?
It was a film about an Alien meteorite that falls on the surface of the earth, it gives awareness to the machines, and they start to kill humans. That’s the synopsis of the movie. Yup, that’s the movie from Stephen King. Yeah, you read it correctly. The author of countless best-selling horror novels, the great Stephen King, not only produced this film but he also made his directorial debut with this flick. He was so sure about the success of this movie; he even featured himself in the trailer. Don’t believe us? Check out this video ->
Now, whether you wanted this sequel or not Michael Bay’s production house “Platinum Dunes” has struck a deal with Stephen to share the rights. Michael intends to helm the sequel, and he plans to create a movie-verse of 80’s horror monsters. It will not be a reboot, he is going to continue the story from the original film. Stephen King has penned the script. Stephen is hell-bent on getting some of the original cast back, but most of the actors from source film have either passed away, or they have retired from acting.
According to reports, Michael’s production team already has a cast list, and they are currently in talks with the actors to work on the dates. Platinum Dunes wants to release this movie around early or mid-2019.
Even though critics do not like Bay’s movies, the general audience enjoys his films. All his movies have been financially successful. He likes to create larger than life cinema, which is usually loud and grand. We are suspecting that Michael’s Maximum Overdrive is not going to be a horror; it will be more of an action-flick.
There will be a grand cast, tons of explosion, intense action scenes with bombastic dialogues, and an exceptionally hot “damsel in distress.” His movies are visually appealing, and the characters are lovable. He has given us some great movies like Bad Boys, Transformers, and even the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
We have no doubt in his capabilities to create great engaging films, but if you are planning to watch MO sequel for a good old scare, you will be utterly disappointed. Michael hasn’t done a Horror flick before, and we are pretty sure, he is not going to make the sequel a scary movie. He has zero experience in the “Horror” department.
The chances are slim, but Michael Bay has deep pockets, and there is still a possibility that Stephen King may manage to woo the rock band one more time. Getting AC/DC to sing for their movie would be a Marketing bullseye, but it is going to be extremely tough. When the first MO started to fall apart on the box-office in its opening weekend, AC/DC pushed King to drop the sign “Official Soundtrack” on his movie’s Album pressings.
To avoid the leaks related to this project Platinum Dunes is calling the auditions under a code-name “Maxima.” The cast is going to be a mix of old and new (more new than old) actors & characters. An excellent cast is necessary for the success of any film, but if the script is pathetic then even famous A-Lister artists cannot save the ship from sinking. Here’s the name of the actors, whom we may see in the upcoming Maximum Overdrive movie:-
