Luke Skywalker’s legacy has been a major element in the recent Star Wars films, however, while fans came to know what the self-exiled Jedi Master was doing in The Last Jedi, they didn’t find out the same for two years after The Force Awakens’ release.
Mark Hamill couldn’t get any dialogue as Luke Skywalker in the Star Wars Episode VII, but, he recently shared that he did deliver a few lines in the movie, but, as a secret character.
Hamill had attended a BAFTA Q & A discussion on Star Wars: The Last Jedi with his co-stars and writer/director Rian Johnson. He talked about his cameo as Dobbu Scay in the Canto Bight scene when he mentioned his bigger role in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
“Listen, I’m a huge fan of Andy [Serkis] and all these people that do motion capture,” said Hamill. “I said to Rian, is there anything I could do to do a motion capture character? And I said… because I’ve done other things — I have lines in Force Awakens, but it’s un-billed, it’s uncredited, uncompensated — just because I have so much fun.”
He revealed this in a whispering tone to the crowd as if he was revealing some secret. In fact, the other role that Hamill played in Star Wars: The Force Awakens was indeed a secret before he disclosed it.
Going by the tone of the conversation, it is unlikely that he played a CG character in the film directed by J.J. Abrams, but, he might have voiced a character to compensate for the absence of any Luke Skywalker dialogs.
Hamill had also played another character in Star Wars: The Last Jedi was the grumpy, sophisticated creature who in his drunken state thrust coins into BB-8, thinking that the Resistance droid was yet another slot machine. We can also see him giggling with joy while he presented himself with the coins at the time of Fathiers romping through the casino.
However, the revelation that he had lines of dialog in Star Wars: The Force Awakens must come as a surprise to all the fans who had so far believed that Hamill had only appeared in the end scene with that forlorn look.
Now, the big question is: Who else did Hamill play in Star Wars: The Force Awakens?
Star Wars: The Last Jedi is currently running in theaters.
