We have only heard good news about Episode 8 till now, and everybody on the sets and beyond has been euphoric with what Rian Johnson is doing with the “The Last Jedi.”
But it looks like that opinion is about to change. The main lead of the original Star Wars trilogy, Mark Hamill has told Vanity Fair in the interview that he is not pleased with the portrayal of Luke Skywalker in the 8th installment of Star Wars franchise. Mark has always been open and direct about his opinions about his work throughout his career, and he packs a massive fan following internationally. The impact of his statement is going to be immense on the reputation of upcoming Star Wars episode.
Mark Hamill explained his dismay to Vanity Fair like this:-
“I at one point had to say to Rian, ‘I pretty much fundamentally disagree with every choice you’ve made for this character. Now, having said that, I have gotten it off my chest, and my job now is to take what you’ve created and do my best to realize your vision.’
Now, this is as direct as one can be. Mark is not trying to hint or talk implicitly about his frustrations; he just told the whole wide world that he “Fundamentally Disagrees” with Rian’s depiction of Luke. Having said that, we have seen actors being wrong all time about their roles, and this could be one of those cases. But this is Mark Hamill people, Mark’s thought process usually matches with what the fans want. We will have to wait until December to figure out, what Rian has done with Luke Skywalker?
