Mark Hamill aka Luke Skywalker tweeted about the gory Wampa scene from the movie The Empire Strikes Back. The actor is still fuming about the fact that his character had to dismember the arm of the monster to save his life. As reported, Hamill was earlier told about something different, and he found out about the ghastly scene later on.
Hamill has been dominating the news these days. After once again appearing in his legendary role of Luke Skywalker with great fanfare in the closing sequences of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Hamill is going to play a crucial role in the mega festive season release Star Wars: The Last Jedi. He had earlier stated his desire to play a dark version of Luke Skywalker, and we have heard Rian Johnson say that he is happy to hear fans guess about the prospects of Luke turning Dark.
Therefore, it is nearly certain that we are not unlikely to see the good old Luke in The Last Jedi. However, back during the days of The Empire Strikes Back, Luke was still a down to earth orphan with a loving heart. That’s why audience members were definitely shocked to see him slicing off the arm of another creature. After all these years, Hamill has now explained the incident by responding to a fan on Twitter:
During the filming of his scene with director Irvin Kershner, Hamill had thought that Luke would singe Wampa with his lightsaber to the extent of scaring it off without harming it permanently and also saving Luke’s life from becoming Wampa’s food in the freezing cave on Hoth. When Hamill made his lightsaber move, the creature wasn’t present on the set.
Later, an alteration was made without involving Hamill. Instead of just hurting him, Hamill was shown to have sliced the beast’s arm, and it is among the most violent things done by Luke throughout the original trilogy. Despite Luke having to do that to save his own life, it seemed a great deal out of place for a benevolent character like him.
We feel that Hamill wrote his tweet in a mischievous way. His display of anger is probably in a humorous way. However, the legendary actor has never gotten over the scene that got altered without his knowledge and gave Luke a very aggressive touch.
