The pair of Leonardo DiCaprio and director Quentin Tarantino is back for the presently untitled movie by the latter based in 1969. The duo earlier came together on the gory western by Tarantino titled Django Unchained. DiCaprio had essayed the role of the leading baddie of the movie, Calvin Candie. While DiCaprio had hurt his hand during filming (still kept going), he got one of his numerous Oscar nominations for the role. Although, a lot of people expected him to win it, but, he didn’t get an Oscar for Django Unchained.
DiCaprio’s latest film with Tarantino will be his first project after his Oscar-winning work in The Revenant. It’s yet to be seen whether DiCaprio will win his second Oscar for the upcoming role. Considering the movie’s concept and Tarantino’s association with it, it definitely seems to be a good contender for awards season. It is true that the Academy doesn’t always love Tarantino’s movies, but, he has two Oscars in his bag for his screenwriting.
Deadline has reported that DiCaprio certain to star in Tarantino’s latest film. They haven’t yet signed on the deal yet, but, that is expected in the near future. The film is presently untitled, but, its release date is vital as it coincides with the 50th anniversary of Sharon Tate’s murder by the Mason family. Current heart-throb Margot Robbie has been contacted to play the role of the doomed actress, but, Tarantino maintains that the movie is not focusing on Manson. He claims it would be a Pulp Fiction genre movie based in the same period as that of the Manson murders.
As per reports, DiCaprio will play an aging actor in the new Tarantino movie. Although the role is reportedly full of substance, no information has been shared about the story or the character. However, it is evident that DiCaprio has got one of the two key roles that Tom Cruise was after at one point. Cruise, Robbie and DiCaprio are, but, just some of the big names associated with the latest Tarantino project. Variety has reported that the director is also aiming to cast Al Pacino in his film, and has even created a role exclusively for the legendary actor.
Time will tell how the film turns out after everything is in place. Tarantino has a penchant for making movies based in the past, and giving them his own gory twist and feel. Leveraging the backdrop of Manson Murders is ideal for the moviemaker’s thoughts and creative style.
This might just be the movie that ultimately gets Tarantino some big awards such as Best Director or Best Picture. The Academy honors films based on Hollywood of yesteryears, and that seems to be the topic that Tarantino will touch in his new film. If the Academy loved his new film, then he might bag more Oscars.
