Firestorm’s exit has left a gap behind on DC’s Legends of Tomorrow which might now be filled by Kid Flash from The Flash. During the recent Television Critics Association winter press tour, Mark Pedowitz, the president of The CW suggested that Wally West will make an appearance on the time-travel show.
“You might see Wally West [Keiynan Lonsdale] show up on Legends,” Pedowitz told BlackGirlNerds when the subject came up for discussion. In response to a question about whether Wally West will become a permanent member of the cast, he said, “You’ll have to watch!”
During the four-episode Arrowverse crossover event “Crisis on Earth-X” in 2017, Martin Stein perished in action. Before he died, he separated from the Firestorm matrix and Jax, which in effect left him powerless. Jax later struggled about not just his place in the team, but, also with the way that it reminded him of his departed partner. He finally stepped down from the Legends in order to reconcile with Martin’s death. His team gave him a Christmas-themed farewell party and then dropped him to the Central City in 2017, his chosen place of stay.
Marc Guggenheim, the executive producer, had said last month that “a previously established character from the Arrowverse” would replace Firestorm. Although, there are a lot of characters from Supergirl, The Flash and Arrow to choose from, Wally West has been chosen mainly due to the events happening on The Flash.
On that show, Wally has faced some of his own problems. He abandoned the team and Central City to go to Blue Valley and pay attention to himself. He came back to attend Barry and Iris’ wedding and hung around to protect his father and sister when the Earth-X Nazi invasion took place. The characters had to be removed from the show due to the costs involved with featuring two speedsters, but, “more exciting” stuff about his future was hinted at.
