Star Wars is currently one of the oldest series and its mammoth fan base has made it more of a separate universe. Things belonging to this universe thus became special and worthy of sporting a collection. Fans started collecting as many Memorabilia as possible as vintage Star Wars value kept on increasing. One man, Stephen J. Sansweet, has however managed to get a step ahead and create the world’s largest Star Wars Collection.
Sansweet runs a non-profit organization by the name Rancho Obi-Wan that donates money from tours to charity and is also the world’s largest private Star Wars collection. Reportedly, a perpetrator has stolen 100 rare pieces from Sansweet’s collection that are collectively worth about $200k. Sansweet confirmed the theft through an open letter on his Rancho Obi-Wan website. He also mentioned the name of the alleged thief in the letter and requested his fellow Star Wars fans to look out for the missing items on the Internet.
What hurts Sansweet the most is the fact that the alleged thief is one of his own friend and a long time supporter of Rancho. He said he found out about the theft after a rare Boba Fett action figure with rocket firing capabilities was tracked from its buyer to the seller, Carl Edward Cunningham. He said that Cunningham was hosted by him at the Rancho over the years and was a good and trusted friend of his. If found guilty, Cunningham could serve up to 16 months in jail with a fine of $10,000.
As per Sansweet’s words, the theft happened over a period of one year from 2015 to 2016 but he learnt about it only in February 2017. He describes the stolen pieces as “vintage U.S. and foreign carded action figures, many of them rare and important pieces.” He continues it saying, “many have been resold or professionally appraised for a total of more than $200,000.”
Sansweet has been collecting Star Wars memorabilia for the past 40 years and has an estimated total of 300,000 pieces. He puts up around 91,000 individual pieces on display at Rancho Obi-Wan, located in Sonoma County, California. Sansweet is asking anybody to contact him directly on his website to provide any information regarding the stolen pieces. We request you to help Sansweet and contact him at email@example.com if you have any information regarding the stolen pieces.
