Jeremy Renner was among the last heroes of the core Avengers team to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe, back in 2012 and had the least screen presence before the arrival of Avengers. Everyone wanted to watch more of Hawkeye working in tandem with other Avengers. However, Hawkeye was merely shown to be a piece of Loki’s chess-game, who absent-mindedly did his bidding for a major part of the film. Later he got bigger roles in Avengers: Age of Ultron and Captain America: Civil War, however, Renner/Hawkeye fans, haven’t yet got a properly detailed look at the character.
Most of the people anticipated Ultron to kill Hawkeye, but, he managed to survive and live on, presently hiding due to the Sokovia Accords dispute. But, there are not many chances of Hawkeye ever getting a chance to play leading role on cinema screens, especially with Marvel trying out new things with films such as Doctor Strange. In case, a Hawkeye film has no place in Marvel’s scheme of things, then Renner would be keen to get his own Netflix original series.
Renner was recently promoting his upcoming film Arrival, and during a discussion with IGN, he was questioned about this. Courtesy the quality of shows such as Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and Luke Cage; Hawkeye appears to be a good option for this platform. According to Renner, if Marvel and Netflix come to him with the idea, he would be willing to do it. Renner said:
I don’t know the practicality of that, but any of these characters that I play I’d love to dig into more. I never feel like I get enough time with any character I play, and that’s one of them.
As a premise, Hawkeye seems to be well suited with the realistic superhero properties created by Marvel and Netflix earlier; there have been no signs of it happening. Marvel and Netflix have their plates full with new seasons of their ongoing shows and some potential spin-offs. Therefore, carving out a space for Hawkeye might not be easy. Still, the fact that Hawkeye hasn’t been given a role at par with the other Avengers in MCU gives him an opportunity for such a thing. If Renner is genuinely keen on doing a series, then the idea might get more attention from all parties concerned.
A Hawkeye series could be just the right thing for the character, as well as a bridge to create the ultimate crossover event for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, if that doesn’t happen in Avengers: Infinity War or Untitled Avengers 4. Hawkeye coming to Netflix would give him an opportunity to come across The Defenders, and it would be a genuine crossover between different Marvel Universe streams. If Marvel desires so, it can go even further by roping in Adrianne Palicki aka Mockingbird to play a small, fan favorite role. Sadly, as of now, these are just wishes, guesswork, and conjectures, but, it is heartening to see that Renner is game for it.
We will share more Hawkeye news with you as soon as it becomes available.
