It has been 10 years after Iron Man (2008) came out and MCU is approaching at the culmination of everything as Kevin Feige puts it. The Iron Man trilogy starring Robert Downey Jr. has been a success for MCU, and the craze for Tony Stark and RDJ has reached the seventh sky. He has made 7 appearances in MCU movies including Iron Man (2008), Iron Man 2 (2010), The Avengers (2012), Iron Man 3 (2013), Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015), Captain America: Civil War (2016), and Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017) and a cameo in Incredible Hulk (2008).
Marvel studios chose to start cinematic universe with Iron Man and wanted the over-arching plot to revolve around Tony Stark/Iron Man. This gamble paid off, and Iron Man has become a sole anchor of the universe with superheroes poured in as supporting characters. He is admirable and a recognizable face in MCU.
Iron Man is a billionaire son who turned superhero and joined “The Avengers” because it is cool to save the world. He is over-confident, and an impulsive guy with high-IQ. In Extremis comic-book series, we see Iron Man sustaining any injury, access brain’s repair center for the healing process. He could regrow organs.
In Avengers, we saw how he saved the day by carrying a missile on his shoulders from Earth’s orbit. In Iron Man- 3, we saw how he can be at two places at once. Thanks to Mark 42, he was tracking Pepper and President. He could travel space and access advanced alien technologies and return in time. He is an MIT graduate who can hack anything.
In Iron Man 3, Tony Stark said “My armor was never a distraction or a hobby, it was a cocoon, and now I’m a changed man. You can take away my house, all my tricks, and toys, but one thing you can’t take away – I am Iron Man”.
Over the years, the suit had upgrades regarding technology. In comics, Tony Stark was given powers to forge weapons using Asgardian resources. He was to learn about Uru, forged 8 weapons from materials and infused Extremis armor with the divine will of Odin, which is the same thing used to make Thor’s hammer Mjolnir.
Robert Downey Jr. on his Facebook page teased an enhanced Iron man suit embedded with Asgardian armor. He needs something more than a standard suit to fight Thanos in space. It is not an official concept, but Downey is not kidding, the caption under this photo reads “nobody does armor like Agar.”
The concept art of Iron Man armor for Avengers Infinity War was released and “Prime” armor from comics. It is the most powerful suits he has worn as it changes shape and form.
Brian Bendis and David Marquez in 2015 came out with the design and capabilities which are amazing. Tony Stark made the suit when he was frustrated and combined all abilities into one model from nano tech to stealth to Hulk buster at will. Here is what Brian said:
“I kind of think of the armor as a super hi-tech Lego set; it can expand into a giant Hulkbuster or contract to a skin-tight ninja-like stealth suit. It can go underwater or launch into orbit.”
