Hiromi Tsuru’s sudden demise shocked the anime fans last year. The veteran actress was renowned for series such as Anpanman and Dragon Ball. Now fans recently got an opportunity to bid farewell to Tsuru at a public memorial.
Last weekend, a large number of fans assembled to pay homage to Tsuru at a public service (via ANN). Before that, the actress was laid to rest in a private ceremony, and then fans, as well as her colleagues, took part in a public event honoring her career. Famous names such as Mayumi Tanaka, Keiko Toda, Ryusei Nakao, Masako Nozawa, Tohru Furuya, Ryo Horikawa and many others got together to honor their friend.
Reportedly, over 400 fans were present at the event. The memorial’s images show a huge Tsuru portrait placed among 4000 cut flowers, seven Dragon Ball balloons and cut-outs of the various characters played by her. The climactic theme song of Dragon Ball reverberated during the ceremony, and Nozawa gave a teary-eyed speech to the gathering, as a representative of Tsuru’s co-workers.
“The seven Dragon Balls are here and are said to be able to do anything, right? But it was useless this time, I’m sorry,” the voice of Goku said.
“I still don’t know what happened, and I wish I could have asked her ‘what’s wrong?’ But it seems Hiromi, without bothering anyone, has gone on to a world where we can’t follow. But, there are many friends there. I don’t want to say this but, Hiromi, please watch over our world. Goodbye.”
Nakao also gave a speech on behalf of Anpanman cast. He told fans that he would continue giving his best, but, it won’t be easy, before saying goodbye to Tsuru in the voice of Baikinman, the character he plays on the show.
News about Tsuru’s sudden death came out in November last year when she passed away due to natural causes. Merely 57-year-old, the actress was spotted unconscious in her car and taken to a nearby hospital where she was declared dead. Detailed investigations into Tsuru’s death clarified that she died naturally, and there was a brief statement from Toei Animation about the heartbreaking incident.
