Hollywood has been badly shaken by the spate of sexual misbehavior allegations which have surfaced in last few months, and several studios have fired actors as well as filmmakers accused of such acts. In certain cases, such as the one with Kevin Spacey in All The Money In The Bank, the actors have been recast and scenes reshot. But, things are different with T.J. Miller, who plays the clever Weasel in Fox’s movie Deadpool and its upcoming sequel.
There were allegations about Miller having sexually assaulted a lady during his college time came up last month, after years of gossip. While Miller refuted any such thing, many anticipated the allegations to impact his Deadpool 2 role, which might be recast. However, the veteran X-Men producer Lauren Shuler Donner told Rotten Tomatoes, “We’re in the final editing. I don’t think so.”
Donner is well aware of the crisis engulfing Miller, and she had gone on record against the X-Men: The Last Stand maker Brett Ratner regarding the harassment accusations by Kitty Pryde actress Ellen Page. However, the producer chose to let either Fox or Disney (consequent to the outcome of their deal) take the call about whether Miller would be a part of future Deadpool movies. “That’s a whole studio thing,” she said. “I don’t know.”
The David Leitch helmed Deadpool 2 stars Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool, Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Leslie Uggams as Blind Al, Stefan Kapičić as the voice of Colossus, and Karan Soni as Dopinder, with newcomers Zazie Beetz as Domino, Josh Brolin as Cable, Julian Dennison in an unknown role, and Jack Kesy as a villain expected to be Black Tom Cassidy. The movie will release in cinemas on June 1.
