In 2015, Avengers: Age Of Ultron had a few epic moments to the MCU, and this included many scenes that Marvel fans enjoyed. This said, having seen Captain America being incapable of lifting Mjolnir was not one of them. At this time, fans believed that like the comic-counterpart, Steve Rogers must be capable of lifting Mjlonir. Steve was able to budge Mjolnir and this indicates that there was something that held Captain America from being worthy.
A fan theory posted on GWW may have solved the mystery that has puzzled fans for a long time. The answer lies within a plot point in Captain America: Civil War, but you may have missed it.
One thing that has put Captain America aside from other MCU heroes is the selfless and caring ways of his. In Captain America: The First Avenger, we saw that Steve would throw himself onto a grenade so that no one would get hurt, even though the same people laughed at him for being weak.
So what held Cap back from wielding Thor’s hammer? While Captain America made it clear that he puts others over himself, Steve’s dishonesty with Tony took away his worthiness.
In Captain America: Civil War, we find out that a brainwashed Bucky Barnes assassinated Tony Stark’s parents, and they did not die in the car accident as we had thought in Iron Man 2. It was later revealed that Steve Rogers knew of this and did not tell told Tony.
While it is understandable that Steve will fear Tony’s reaction, it was not his decision to keep this truth from Tony. Considering Bucky did not come back until Captain America: The Winter Soldier in 2014, Steve would have known about the event for two years, which makes sense as to why he could not lift Mjolnir, as the events of Age OfUltron took place a year after The Winter Soldier. If the theory is true, this would mean that there should be nothing left in the way for Cap to lift Mjolnir now.
Avengers: Infinity War will be huge, and the actors who portray characters in the movie like Tom Holland have said that it will be the “biggest movie of all time.”
As many are aware of, Chris Evans does not seem to enthuse on renewing the contract, leading people to the certainty that Steve Rogers may meet his demise. People believe it so that they are predicting how the death will happen. While it is not easy to accept, Chris Evans said:
“I had six films in my Marvel contract, so I could have said after the third Avengers I was done, but they wanted to make the third and fourth Avengers films as a two-parter. They said they had so many other characters to fit in – Guardians of the Galaxy, Black Panther, Captain Marvel, Doctor Strange, Ant-Man – and couldn’t get them all into one movie.”
It appears that Chris stayed because they had planned on doing the movie as a “two-parter,” and as he made it seem, the days of Steve Rogers in the MCU will come to an end. Steve Rogers will have to make a huge exit for the fans to be satisfied. Lifting Thor’s hammer will conclude his path to righteousness. While it is uncertain at this point what may happen in Avengers: Infinity War, we know that everyone will like to see this happen.
