We will see unprecedented 70+ comic-book characters feature in the Avengers: Infinity War films and this massive MCU expansion has unleashed strong competition among characters to get extra screen time. Some of these superheroes and villains are almost going to be in a physical jostling to get visibility and runtime in the grand film that will release in 2018.
The Marvel Studios President, Kevin Feige, believes that it this is the outcome of the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe since its beginning in May 2008 in the form of the film Iron-Man. He also said that the Infinity War would see a crossover between the Avengers and the Guardians of the Galaxy and this will spill over into the next Avengers film.
The iconic comic-book story is likely to be replicated and will see Thanos discover the location of all mind gems which are held by the elders of the universe in the comics. However, the cinematic universe showed Vision having the mind gem, and he is not among the elders.
The Avengers: Infinity War will show Thanos collecting all of the gems and creating an invincible Infinity Gauntlet which will unleash a devastating catastrophe and after that, we will see Team Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy come together to battle the Mad Titan and save the realm.
This is what Joe Russo said when questioned about the main characters in Infinity War:
“You know, the story really centers who you would expect it to center around, so our more important characters. This is a culmination film ten years in the making, and we are pulling the main story threads from all of the different franchises into one unifying narrative. So many of the important characters are going to be in this film, and they are going to have something important to do in the movie.”
Marvel Studios has accomplished the difficult task of putting together a spectacular cast in one film to produce a massive comic-book event as a segment of its phase 3. By far, The Infinity War movies are the most eagerly anticipated superhero team-up films of this millennium so far.
Despite the cast being studded with iconic comic-book superstars, the most prominent character is of the Mad Titan Thanos. So far, he has appeared briefly in post-credits of some Phase 2,3 movies, and Infinity War is going to be the film wherein he will feature as the main villain for the first time and will take on the superheroes in pursuit of his evil mission.
These are Infinity gems that Thanos will hunt for and their present locations:
This purple gem gives its user the power to harness any energy and enhances the powers of other gems. Presently, it is located on Nova Corps which also happens to be the homeworld of Xander and Thanos will soon steal it.
This is a green gem, and this will be seen for the first time. It has the power to control time and is most likely possessed by Dr. Strange in “Eye of Agamotto.”
The blue Soul gem empowers its user to see across the entire universe. However, its location is not yet known.
The yellow mind stone if used in tandem with power gem can let the user keep a tab on the minds of all the living beings across the galaxy and also to manipulate them as per his choice, all at the same time. Presently, this is studded in Vision’s, forehead and Thanos is coming to get it.
This is the very first Infinity Stone which is better known as Tesseract and it lets the user be omnipresent and warp to any location in the universe instantly. This is an orange colored gem (shown as blue in the movies) and is placed at the top of the fist. It’s probable location is in Asgard and Heimdall is guarding it.
This is the same as Aeither from the comic book Thor: The Dark World. This stone has incredible mystical powers, and it lets the user create scenarios and things that are normally impossible. This stone was located in the Collector’s vault, but, after the destruction of his museum, it could be anywhere. This gem is a symbiotic force which can disfigure the reality of the “human host,” and stretch it well beyond the range of human capacity.
Apart from the soul stone which we are going to discover in Thor: Ragnarok, all other Infinity stones have been revealed. Jo Russo talked about them and went on to confirm that the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War will show Thanos use the Reality gem, but, didn’t reveal any exact details. This is what he said to ScreenRant:
“Each gem has its own special power. We had to put a lot of thought into how we would represent those powers so it was clear to the audience. Not only are you dealing with a lot of characters, you are also dealing with the stones, the gems, and there’s a lot of them. So for people to keep track of all of it, we had to get really specific. I won’t divulge how we use the Reality Stone, but we do use it.”
The new footage of Avengers: Infinity War shows Dr. Strange with his friends once again who are expected to be members of the most powerful secret society in the history of mankind – The Illuminati.
Kevin Feige, the president of Marvel Studios also stated that the Illuminati is set to be featured in some way in the film. Robert Downey Jr. had shared a picture with possible Illuminati friends including Benedict Cumberbatch, Benedict Wong, and Mark Ruffalo. The new footage shows all of them out in the streets littered with destroyed vehicles, some of them burning and Robert Downey Jr. wearing a motion capture suit. We wonder if Illuminati has the capability to guard humanity from the ferocity of Thanos?
The Avengers Infinity War will hit cinema screens on May 4, 2018.
