If a newly-discovered Justice League script from 2011 had been used by Warner Bros., the audiences would have seen a movie with Darkseid as its main villain.
According to The Wrap, this draft was written by Will Beall, the scribe on James Wan’s Aquaman movie. Developed before the DCEU was put in place, Beall’s story had revolved around Desaad enslaving Superman, who conquered Earth in Darkseid’s name.
The story spanned the galaxy, with John Stewart and Hawkman investigating threats of Apokolips which resulted in the elimination of the Corps on Oa. It also drove Stewart to unite with the League. Time travel is also an element in the script with Superman journeying to the future to meet a resistance boasting versions of Batman, Wonder Woman, Clark and Lex Luthor.
The script included many elements that made it to the DCEU, like an armored-up Batman fighting the Man of Steel, Barry Allen traveling to the past and the Amazons joining the battle against Darkseid’s armies. A very different incarnation of the Suicide Squad had been planned, featuring Deathstroke and Huntress fighting against the invading aliens.
Now in theaters, Justice League stars Ben Affleck as Batman, Henry Cavill as Superman, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Ezra Miller as The Flash, Raymond Fisher as Cyborg, Willem Dafoe as Vulko, Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Connie Nielsen as Queen Hippolyta, Amber Heard as Mera and J.K. Simmons as Commissioner Gordon.
