With the DC Cinematic Universe set to make up for the time lost to Marvel’s head start in movies, it appears like the two greatest comic book distributors could both rule the movies for many years. For fans, this is marvelous. It could mean another comic book film every month! Once all the principle stories are off the beaten path, is there a possibility for both companies to team up on something significantly greater? It’s happened on paper, so why not on screen?
1. SUPERMAN VS THE PHOENIX
The trouble with Superman has been Superman. He’s essentially indestructible, so regardless of what villain he fights, it appears as though there’s no tension as such. Even when he kicks the bucket in the comics, the authors bring him back. They therefore, get rid of any feeling of fear or anxiety about any battle he might get into later on. There’s just one being in the universes of Marvel and DC who could give the Man of Steel a run for his money and that’s the Phoenix. Jean Gray, controlled by the Phoenix Force, wields the forces of Cosmic Creation. The Phoenix is an interminable and indestructible display of the powers of life itself. The entire DC universe would be unable to stand united against the Phoenix. This means, a match against Superman would be one to die for.
2. BATMAN VS BLADE
The method for any great comic book hybrid film lies in balance and atmosphere. You can’t make Batman battle the Hulk since many people would never trust Bruce Wayne could survive a solitary punch from the enormous, green anger machine. Besides, we want to see heroes as foes only so that they team up later and fight a true enemy. You require complimentary characters, which is the reason Batman and Blade go hand in hand. Blade has powerful adversaries while Batman hasmaniacal and twisted ones, yet none of them ever appear to stroll in the daylight. Let them both fight one another until they have to fight against Scarecrow and Lucas Cross; Blade’s vampire father. Deadpool and Blade have demonstrated there’s a business opportunity for R-rated comic book films out there. Adding Batman would really raise the stakes to make this one hellfire movie.
